Crash between jet and helicopter captured on CCTV

CCTV footage captured the moment an American Airlines regional passenger jet collided with a US Army Black Hawk helicopter.

American Airlines confirmed 60 passengers and four crew members were aboard the jet. The helicopter, on a training flight, was carrying three soldiers, a US official said.

US President Donald Trump this evening confirmed there were no survivors.

Reuters was able to independently verify the location as Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, because buildings in background match file and satellite imagery. Poles of the airport gangway also match file imagery.

A separate verified video, filmed from near the airport and bearing a 29 January date and time stamp, also showed the moment of collision and the explosion pattern matches.

Airspace is frequently crowded in the US capital region, home to three commercial airports and several major military facilities, and officials have raised concerns about busy runways at Reagan National, just across the river from Washington.

The Pentagon said it was launching an investigation.
