The Ceann Comhairle is under real pressure now to assert her authority.
Verona Murphy is at the centre of a political storm that has upended the nomination of Micheál Martin as Taoiseach.
Already around Leinster House the chatter is that Ms Murphy will struggle to recover from this morning's events.
But is she just caught in the middle of a series of deals reached in negotiating rooms to form a new government?
Deals which the opposition say smack of arrogance.
Crucially, she had tried to call a vote to move the proceedings along but that effort faltered at the last moment and the Dáil was suspended for a second time instead.
The opposition are enraged that the Regional TDs supporting the Government are defining themselves as non-Government deputies.
They want Ms Murphy to quickly bring the shutters down on this move.
There is plenty angst too over plans to adjourn the Dáil tonight for a fortnight from tonight.
It always happens, insists the Government, in order to give ministers time to learn about their new jobs.
The opposition don't like it, and they want TDs to return to work next week.
Whatever way you break it down, it has been a bad morning for the Ceann Comhairle and the incoming Government.
