Two women have been arrested after cannabis worth around €1.28m was seized at Shannon Airport.

The cannabis weighed around 64kg and was discovered in baggage that was on a flight that arrived from the United States.

The women, aged in their 20s and 40s, are being held in a garda station in the south of the country.

Authorities have said the investigations are ongoing.
