Heat maps shows first preference votes

In the following map series you can see the parts of the country where parties have the strongest support. Lighter colours indicate low support, darker colours indicate stronger support.

With Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael, support is spread quite uniformly throughout the country. Sinn Féin also has support everywhere but it increases the further north you go, with the strongest concentration in Donegal, the border counties and Dublin city.

For the Green Party, the map shows their first preference was very much Dublin-based in this election. There was also a strong vote in Co Clare, the constituency of the party deputy leader Róisín Garvey.

Labour's vote is strong in Dublin too and also in constituencies where the party's support has been traditionally strong.

The strongest support for the Social Democrats is very much Leinster and Dublin based, apart from a spike in support in Cork South West, where party leader Holly Cairns is based.

Independent Ireland's support is mainly rural and tends to be based in Western constituencies.
