The country appears to be divided on whether enough is being done to support the Irish language, with 50% of Exit Poll respondents saying not enough is being done, 41% saying enough is being done and 8% saying too much is being done.
The findings are detailed in the RTÉ, Irish Times, TG4 and Trinity College Dublin Exit Poll carried out by Ipsos B&A.
Concerns that not enough is being done are most keenly felt among younger age groups with 66% of 18-24 year olds, as well as 65% of 25-34 year olds, believing that the language needs more support. 51% of 35-49 year olds, 45% of 50-64 years olds and 41% of over 65s also feel that more needs to be done.
Similarly, 26% of 18-24 year olds believe enough is being done, as well as 30% of 25-34 year olds, 42% of 35-49 year olds, 44% of 50-64 year olds and 48% of over 65s.
Across all regions, the belief that not enough is being done to support the Irish language remains consistent at between 50% and 51%.
A regional breakdown of the view that enough is being done is highest in Dublin (43%), followed by Munster (42%), the rest of Leinster not including Dublin (40%) and Connacht/Ulster (37%).
Sinn Féin and Social Democrats voters are most likely to agree with the view not enough is being done at 59% each, followed by People Before Profit-Solidarity (58%), Labour (53%), other smaller parties not currently represented in the Dáil (53%), Independents (52%), Fianna Fáil (51%), the Green Party (51%), Independent Ireland (47%), Aontú (45%) and Fine Gael (38%).
Fine Gael voters are most likely to agree with the view that enough is being done to support the Irish language at 53%, followed by Independent Ireland and other smaller parties (47%), Labour (44%), the Green Party (40%), Fianna Fáil (40%), Independents (39%), Social Democrats (39%), Aontú (34%) and Sinn Féin (30%).
The Exit Poll took place in person outside 253 polling stations, covering each of the 43 Dáil constituencies.
The sample size was 5,018, and the margin of error is 1.4%.
