A man has appeared before Dublin District Court charged with hijacking a car with a baby inside, while the baby's mother was taking the buggy out of the boot.
Noel Ryan, 47 and of no fixed abode, was charged this afternoon with the unlawful seizure of a vehicle and the abduction of a child.
Detective Garda Paul Griffin of Mountjoy Garda Station said Mr Ryan made no reply when charged.
Outlining the facts to Judge Gerard Jones, Detective Griffin said it was alleged the accused unlawfully seized a vehicle at Mountjoy Square West on Monday afternoon at around 1.45pm.

He said it was alleged the vehicle was taken by force from the mother, while her five-month-old baby was in a rear child seat in the vehicle.
He said the woman was taking the buggy out of the boot and it is alleged the accused man entered the vehicle and drove off.
The car was recovered at 4pm - the baby was still in their seat and was unharmed.
Defence solicitor Eoin Lysaght said there was no application for bail.
The accused was remanded in custody to appear again at Clover Hill District Court next week.
