Dublin Airport said queues at Terminal 2 are "moving well" this evening following a power issue which left more than 30,000 premises in north Dublin without electricity earlier today.

Airport operator daa said an ESB power outage in the north County Dublin area resulted in a loss of power in parts of Terminal 2 this morning.

It said the nature of the outage caused an issue with the airport's back-up generators, which resulted in some delays for passengers checking in at T2.

It said most flight operations continued as normal throughout the incident.

Spokesperson for daa, Graeme McQueen, said there was a small backlog at T2 this afternoon and that 15 flights were delayed as a result of the outage.

In a post on X this evening, Dublin Airport said: "Terminal 2 is moving very well this evening. We thank passengers for their patience and understanding this morning as we faced power issues in T2. We apologise to all those caught up and inconvenienced by the incident."

Mr McQueen said a full review is under way to find out why back-up power systems did not kick in and he said daa wants to ensure that it does not happen again.

Earlier today, a passenger, Eva Murphy Ryan, told RTÉ News that she was waiting at the top of a check-in line for more than an hour and that screens were blank and baggage carousels at check-in desks were not moving.

She said hundreds of people were waiting in the terminal building and that daa staff were handing out water.

Meanwhile, 34,000 premises were left without power due to what the ESB described as a "significant fault" in north Dublin.

The ESB said power was restored by lunchtime to the homes and business impacted in the area.
