A man in his 50s has been arrested and is due in court tomorrow morning charged in connection with a road crash in which a woman in her 80s died in Co Donegal.

The man is due before Letterkenny District Court at around 10.30am.

The crash, which involved two vehicles, happened on the N56 at Inver, Co Donegal on Sunday morning.

The woman has been named locally as Elizabeth Cave from Donegal Town.

She sustained serious injuries in the crash and was brought to Sligo University Hospital for treatment but died earlier today.

Ms Cave is the third person to die on Donegal roads in five days.

It comes after 16-year-old Kían Dawson-Kirk and his 20-year-old cousin Eoghán Dawson lost their lives after a single vehicle road traffic collision at Cross in Quigley's Point on Saturday night.

Eleven people have died on Donegal’s roads so far this year, compared to a total number of ten fatalities for all of last year.
