Members of the Bandon Athletic Club gathered in the town for member Phil Healy's 4x400m relay final at the Olympic Games.

Spirits are high as the club is also celebrating its 60th birthday at Bandon GAA club.

The quartet, made up of Ms Healy, Sophie Becker, Rhasidat Adeleke and Sharlene Mawsdsley, missed out on a medal as they set a national record on route to a fourth place finish in Paris.

The athletes qualified for the final after an impressive third-place finish in their heat at the Stade de France yesterday.

Speaking ahead of the race, Secretary of Bandon Athletic Club Laura McSweeney said that everyone was very excited for Ms Healy’s race.

"We’re celebrating the club’s 60th birthday and this is just the icing on the cake to have Phil compete in an Olympic final," she said.

Ms Healy has been nicknamed the 'Ballineen Bullet'

Ms Healy, from Ballineen, has been a member of Bandon AC since she was 9 years old.

The since nicknamed "Ballineen Bullet" won her first national medal when she was in 5th year.

But Ms Healy has since excelled past this achievement.

She has competed at European and world championships, and is now competing in her second Olympic Games.
