Around 36,600 Olympic medals have been awarded to athletes since the first modern Olympic Games in Athens in 1896.
But this year's medals will feature something new that has never adorned the gold, silver and bronze medals of Olympics past.
To mark Paris 2024, the medals for this Olympics will feature a tiny piece - 18g to be exact - of something iconically French.
