An investigation is taking place after the fatal assault of a 34-year-old man in the Finglas area of north Dublin in the early hours of this morning.
He has been named locally as Mark Carroll.
He was discovered with serious injuries at a house in the Scribblestown area of Finglas shortly after 1am.
He was treated at the scene and transported by ambulance to Connolly Hospital, Blanchardstown, where he was later pronounced dead.
It' is understood he had been stabbed.
Mr Carroll was from the Finglas area and had been a visitor at the house where the fatal assault happened.
Two scenes have been sealed off as part of the investigation.
The office of the State pathologist has been notified, and a post-mortem examination will be arranged.
Gardaí have preserved the scene for a technical examination.
A senior investigating officer has been appointed to lead the inquiry, and an incident room has been established at Finglas Garda Station.
A family liaison officer has been assigned to inform the dead man's family of developments.
Gardaí have appealed for witnesses to come forward, particularly those who were in the Scribblestown area between midnight and 1am.
Those with any video footage are asked to make it available to investigating gardaí.
