A garda and an international protection applicant were involved in the rescue of a woman from the River Liffey in Dublin city centre yesterday evening.
Emergency services responded to reports that there were three people in the water.
Dublin Fire Brigade deployed a Swiftwater Rescue Team and a rescue boat.
It is understood that the garda, who was aiding in the rescue, was able to swim to the shore.
The Swiftwater Rescue Team removed the woman who initially got into difficulty from the water alongside the passer-by who had attempted to help her.

It is understood that the man was an international protection applicant.
The two people who were rescued from the water were then taken by ambulance to hospital where they were medically assessed.
