An Irish man has appeared in a court in Boston charged with the rape of a woman in the city over the weekend.
The man has been held on bail of $100,000, ordered not to leave Massachusetts and to surrender his passport.
Suffolk County DA said he would return to court on 16 April for a probable cause hearing.
Assistant District Attorney Erin Murphy said that on Friday morning, Boston police interviewed a woman at Massachusetts General Hospital who told them she had been sexually assaulted at the Omni Parker House earlier that morning.
Detectives secured video surveillance from the hotel and from the The Black Rose, a bar and restaurant in Boston, where both the accused and the victim were on Thursday evening.
In a statement, police said they interviewed the accused on Saturday. The man is alleged to have booked a flight for 10:10pm that night, days before his scheduled departure date.
At the airport, the man allegedly boarded an even earlier flight, departing at around 7pm. State police stopped the plane on the tarmac and removed the man.
