The Department of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that it is providing assistance to an Irish citizen who has reportedly been detained in Iraq.

Yasser Eljuboori, an anti-corruption advocate born in Iraq, was detained while on his way back to Ireland, according to a post by his wife, Laura Wickham, on social media platform X.

Though the Department of Foreign Affairs does not comment on the details of individual cases, it confirmed that it was aware of the case and is providing consular assistance.

Mr Eljuboori regularly highlights corruption issues in Iraq on his X account, where he has almost 75,000 followers.
