The cost of making a pancake has risen by 3% in the last year, according to the Central Statistics Office.
Ahead of Pancake Tuesday, the CSO delved into the cost of flour, eggs and milk for prospective pancake makers around the country comparing prices before Christmas last year with December 2022.
It found the average price of a 2kg bag of self-raising flour has increased by 10% from €2.39 to €2.62 and the price of six large eggs rose by 3% from €2.16 to €2.21.
However, the average price of two liters of full-fat milk decreased 3% from €2.26 to €2.18.
Add on a little sugar before you eat them and the cost goes up again.
The CSO said because 1kg of sugar rose in cost by 24% (€1.51 to €1.88) during the period, adding a spoonful of sugar to a pancake will increase its cost by 6.4%.
The cost was calculated as part of the "National Average Prices basket", which forms part of the CSO's Consumer Price Index.

The CSO added the average price of lemons or lemon juice is not included in the average basket of goods and services.
Separately, it found items traditionally bought for St Valentine's Day have also increased.
Chocolates increased by almost 9% and flowers have gone by up 0.7% year-on-year.
Ash Wednesday also falls on 14 February this year and the CSO also examined the prices of goods consumers might give up during Lent.
It found the average cost of a box of cigarettes has increased by 6% from €15.39 to €16.34, so giving that up for Lent would save over €600.
The price of beer has also bubbled up, with a pint of stout going up by 8% (€5.20 to €5.64) and a pint of larger increasing by 6% (€5.73 to €6.06).
A drinker who forgoes five pints a week over Lent could save between €214 and €230.
All the prices cited by the CSO were gathered as part of its year-round Consumer Price Index Survey.
