A woman has been arrested following the death of a six-year-old boy in Co Waterford.
The child was discovered in a car in the Dunmore East area shortly after midnight.
He received treatment at the scene from emergency service personnel and was subsequently brought by ambulance to University Hospital Waterford where he was pronounced dead in the early hours of this morning.
A woman in her late 30s was arrested near the scene and is being detained at a garda station in Co Waterford, where she can be questioned for up to 24 hours.
Medical attention is also being made available to the woman as required while in custody.
The scene has been preserved for a forensic examination and the State Pathologist's Office has been informed.

Gardaí said the results of a post-mortem examination will determine the course of their investigation.
A minor road in Rathmoylan, about 3km from the village of Dunmore East near the coastline, has been closed by gardaí.
The Bishop of Waterford and Lismore has said that the community of Dunmore East "will be devastated by this heartbreaking loss".
Bishop Alphonsus Cullinan offered his "deepest sympathies to the family and friends of the young boy as they navigate through this time of immense grief and sorrow".
In a statement, he also thanked the emergency services who responded to "this tragic incident", for their professionalism and dedication.
