Met Éireann has issued a Status Yellow warning for low temperatures and ice throughout the country in the coming hours.

The warning comes into place at 5pm this evening and will remain in effect until midday tomorrow.

Temperatures are expected to fall to below –3 degrees in many areas with the resulting frost and ice leading to difficult travelling conditions.

In Northern Ireland the Met Office has issued a Yellow Ice warning for Antrim, Down and Derry between 5pm today and 10am tomorrow.

Meanwhile, Met Éireann has also issued a Status Yellow low temperature warning for tomorrow evening into Saturday.

The very cold conditions will result in widespread frost along with fog and freezing fog.

This warning comes into effect at 5pm tomorrow and remains in place until midday Saturday.

Road users urged to exercise caution

Conor Faughnan, CEO of the Royal Irish Automobile Club, has urged the need for caution by road users who are cycling and using e-scooters during the winter months.

He said they can be "practically invisible" to drivers unless they are wearing high visibility clothing.

He said some electric cars will lose battery capacity quicker during winter because of more devices like demisters being used.

"If you are in an electric car you are going to need more charge than you think on days like this," he said.
