The National Paediatric Hospital Development Board has said it has submitted the final cost estimate to Government on the project.

Phelim Devine, Project Director with the Board, said the figures can not be released due to commercial sensitivity.

"We have made that final submission in terms of what we feel that is and that is sitting at the moment with Government for approval," he added.

The new hospital is due to be built by the end of October next year and open in April 2025 at the earliest.

It has run well over budget and is expected to cost over €2 billion.

The extra costs have been blamed on inflation, Covid-19 as well as extra cost claims submitted by the builder, BAM.

The facility is now 92% complete and the external facade is finished.

The last of the nine tower cranes is due to be removed shortly.

Inside, many of the operating theatres, single bedrooms and critical care units are built.
