A teenager has appeared before Tullamore District Court charged with the murder of Lorna Woodnutt.

Detective Sergeant Caroline Lyng gave evidence of arrest, charge and caution at Tullamore garda station at 8.50pm yesterday.

She said the accused made no reply when charged.

The teenager appeared in court dressed in dark clothing. No application was made for bail.

Judge Andrew Cody remanded the accused to Oberstown Child Detention Campus to appear before the court again next Wednesday 4 October - via video link at 10.15am.

Judge Cody said it was clear that gardaí were concerned about the circulation of a video connected to this incident.

The judge said he was informed that this video could potentially identify the child in this case and he wished to remind all citizens, young and old, that sharing this video is a criminal offence that carries a maximum penalty of three years imprisonment and a fine of over €12,000.

He said he had been advised that the video is graphic to such an extent that it may cause harm to those who may use it, particularly children.

Judge Cody said he would therefore urge all adults and parents of children who may possess this video to ensure it is deleted without further delay and ensure it is not circulated any further.
