Two candidates have been nominated to run to be the next president of the Irish Farmers Association.

The election will take place in November.

The candidates are dairy farmer Martin Stapleton from Co Limerick and beef and sheep farmer Francie Gorman from Co Laois.

Nominations for the position closed at noon today. Both men are currently members of the IFA National Council.

A number of election debates will take place next month. The dates and locations have yet to be finalised.

IFA members will receive their vote in the post and have the option of voting by post or at their local branch AGM.

The election count takes place on 12 December and the new president will take over from Tim Cullinan in January.

There will also be two candidates contesting for the deputy presidency of IFA.

They are Alice Doyle from Wexford and Pat Murphy from Galway.
