An Irish couple has been killed after they were hit by a car in Rome.
The incident occurred at lunchtime yesterday on a busy intersection on the Via Cristoforo Colombo near a campsite on the outskirts of the city.
The bodies of the married couple, reported to be aged 59 and 60, were taken to a hospital for a post-mortem examination.
It is understood they were from Kilmore in Co Wexford and had been on holiday in Rome.

Local reports said the driver of the vehicle stopped to provide assistance to the couple.
The Department of Foreign Affairs said it was aware of the incident and was providing consular assistance.

According to the local media, the Via Cristoforo Colombo is considered among the most dangerous roads in the capital.
