A new national database to track fertiliser sales, improve regulation and contribute to national targets to reduce fertiliser use has gone live with 90,000 farmers already registered.
From today it is an offence to buy or sell fertiliser without being registered.
The National Fertiliser Database requires all farmers or other professional users to register if they wish to buy fertiliser.
It has been developed to record fertiliser sales along the supply chain, achieve better compliance with water quality and environmental targets and to help farmers to easily access records of their fertiliser use, required to verify compliance with regulatory limits or the terms of voluntary schemes.
From today all fertiliser imports into the State must be notified to the database and it will be illegal to sell or purchase fertiliser, including lime, without being registered with the database.
