It'll be a new name on the ballot paper. Not a candidate, but a constituency.
Wicklow-Wexford. Not to be confused with Wicklow or Wexford.
The new three-seater will be made up of parts of south Wicklow and north Wexford and will mean the counties of Wexford and Wicklow will return 11 TDs next time out, an increase of one.
Both the Wexford and Wicklow constituencies lose one TD a piece.
The people of Gorey in Co Wexford (soon to be not in the constituency of Wexford) were one group who today woke up to the news that they’ll be now Wicklow-Wexford.
On the streets today, there was some worries over the change.
"I think Wexford’s identity is completely different to Wicklow’s", said Niamh Ward Carty.
And what about the name?
"Why wouldn’t they have it Wexford-Wicklow, if they did it alphabetically?"
Earlier in the day the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Ms Justice Marie Baker, answered that question saying Wicklow-Wexford slipped more easily of the tongue, rather than the other way around. She also dismissed suggestions that the name would add confusion for voters.
Regardless of the new name, others too had concerns.
"I don’t like it all,’ said Eileen Kavanagh, "we’re moving out of our own county. It’s not good… I’d prefer to stay in Wexford only, they’re taking away our identity maybe?"
Sinead Cullen wasn’t keen on the change either.
"Will it make it more difficult to get a TD into Gorey? We really need a TD.
"I think they should leave it as it is. Keep Wexford as it and Wicklow as it is…. Gorey is massive town, we’ve a lot of people, it’s important we’re looked after." she says.
"I just prefer to be Wexford on its own. Why change it if it’s not broken?"
Further north, in Arklow in Wicklow, which is now in Wicklow-Wexford, some were more receptive to the change. Seasoned political observers have pointed out that the town has never returned a TD.
"There seems to be a lack of representation in this area. If (the redrawing) improves that situation for the town, then all the better." said Stephen Gormley.
But others in the town were a little taken aback by it all.
"It came as surprise to me to tell you the truth…
"We’ve always been in Wicklow … it’s very strange actually." said local man Gerry Power, now of Wicklow-Wexford, not to be confused with Wicklow or Wexford.
