Gardaí have submitted a file to the Director of Public Prosecutions in relation to leadership figures in the Kinahan crime group.

It follows a "comprehensive and wide-ranging investigation by the Garda Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau into numerous serious offences committed here in Ireland by the Kinahan Organised Crime Gang," gardaí said.

Garda Commissioner Drew Harris added: "An Garda Síochána would hope to see leadership figures within the Kinahan Organised Crime Group brought to justice here in Ireland."

In response to questions from RTÉ Radio One, An Garda Síochána said: "Garda investigations to date have seen over 70 members of the Kinahan Organised Crime Gang convicted for offences including murder, drug trafficking, firearms and money laundering.

"An Garda Síochána also continues to work with law enforcement partners in the US, UK and Europe as part of a combined international effort to disrupt and dismantle the Kinahan Organised Crime Gang."
