A 38-year-old man has been charged with the murder of a man whose body was found in the sea at Sliabh Liag in Co Donegal almost a fortnight ago.
Alan Vial, with an address at Drumanoo Head, Killybegs, Co Donegal, was charged with the murder of Robert Wilkin, also known as Robin Wilkin, at an unknown place in the State on 25 June.
At a special sitting of Ballyshannon District Court this afternoon, Garda Ciarán O'Brien gave evidence of arresting Mr Vial in Ballyshannon Garda Station at 12.31pm and charging him at 1.43pm with the murder of Mr Wilkin.
After being charged and cautioned, Mr Vial made no reply.
Judge Éiteáin Cunningham remanded the accused in custody to appear again via videolink to Letterkenny District Court on 17 July, 2023.
Superintendent Karen Duffy of Ballyshannon Garda Station agreed to all matters and that the case be referred to Letterkenny District Court on Monday.
Patsy Gallagher, solicitor for Mr Vial, made no application for bail and asked that his client would be assessed medically while in custody and would be treated for a medical condition.
