The Dublin Broadcasting branch of the National Union of Journalists (NUJ) has expressed its extreme dissatisfaction with the manner and conduct of members of the RTÉ Executive, and the consequences that have resulted from those actions.

RTÉ staff, who are members of the NUJ, met today to discuss the controversy surrounding undisclosed payments to Ryan Tubridy.

The union said it welcomes, in principle, the establishment of a review of corporate governance and culture at RTÉ.

The NUJ said the review panel must be reflective of the voice of workers.

It added that the review must go beyond corporate governance to examine workplace culture, including employment terms and conditions with particular attention given to the promotion of diversity, inclusion and gender equality.

"We are calling for immediate action from Government on the creation of a sustainable and equitable public funding model for the national broadcaster, that takes into account the vital role of public service media in protecting and defending democracy in the face of the spread of disinformation and 'fake news'," the NUJ said in a statement.

"We reiterate that the current TV licence fee is no longer fit for purpose," the union added.

The NUJ Broadcasting Branch reaffirmed its call for a cap on all earnings at RTÉ, in line with civil service salary scales, and its opposition to the inappropriate use of third-party agencies.

It said it also supports calls made at the Public Accounts Committee for more transparency at RTÉ, including the publication of the salaries of RTÉ's 100 highest earners.

"This should include people paid fees through independent production companies," the NUJ Broadcasting Branch said in a statement.
