Triumphant Team Ireland returns from Special Olympics

Team Ireland has returned home from the Special Olympics in Berlin to a rapturous homecoming.

The athletes were given a rousing reception from family members and friends at Dublin Airport.

Family friends and supporters welcomed the 73 athletes and 36 members of the coaching and management team.

The plane carrying Team Ireland touched down around 1pm.

A guard of honour was formed by Aer Lingus staff and led the athletes into the arrivals hall.

The youngest member of the team, Declan Foley from Co Tipperary, won a silver and bronze in equestrian.

Javilier Ryan Griffin, 16, was met by his grandmother, aunt and trainer at the airport to travel home to Kerry this evening.

Denis Daly from the Skellig Stars voluntary club said Ryan only began training in the sport six months ago and went on to win silver in the mini javelin competition.
