A 13-year-old boy has died following a road crash in Co Kilkenny.

Three other people have been brought to hospital for treatment. One of those is understood to be in a critical condition.

The crash happened at about 2.30pm on the N10 in Dundaryark, Danesfort, about 10km from Kilkenny city.

Two cars were involved in a head-on collision and the boy who died was a back-seat passenger in one of the vehicles.

The driver of that car was seriously injured and is in a critical condition in hospital.

A couple in the other car were also injured. All of the injured were taken to St Luke's Hospital in Kilkenny for treatment.

The boy's body has been removed from the scene and a post-mortem will be carried out later.
