A teenager accused of travelling in a stolen car that rammed a garda car refused to "get out of bed" for a hearing, the Children's Court heard today.

The vehicle with two female officers inside was rammed three times after responding to a report about joyriders in Ballyfermot in Dublin last September.

Videos of the incident were posted on social media.

Three teenagers have been charged in connection with the incident, two others have been accepted into the Garda Juvenile Diversion Programme.

The 15-year-old boy is accused of being a passenger in two stolen cars on 19 September 2022, the day the garda patrol car was rammed in Ballyfermot.

He was due to enter a plea today but did not come to court.

His solicitor told the judge that according to the boy's parents, "he is refusing to get out of bed this morning".

Peter Connolly said that while his parents have become concerned about him recently, a good welfare report had been furnished to the court.

Gardaí sought an arrest warrant but Judge Paul Kelly adjourned the case until Thursday.

The court has yet to decide whether to accept jurisdiction in the case of two co-defendants who face a preliminary hearing in July on more serious charges.

They are accused of dangerous driving and endangerment of life by driving aggressively and colliding with the patrol car.

It is alleged they intentionally or recklessly created a risk of death or serious harm.

The Director of Public Prosecutions has recommended that they face trial in a higher court with broader sentencing powers.
