Tallaght Garda Station has reopened after earlier being evacuated and closed to the public.
The incident began after gardaí arrested a male in the area this evening. On arrival back at the station, gardaí said an inspection of a bag in the man's possession "indicated contents of concern".
As a precaution, they called in the Irish Defence Forces Explosive Ordnance Disposal and some roads in the area were closed.
Now, the Defence Forces have completed their examination of the bag and contents. The items have been removed and will be examined further.
A man has been detained under Section 30 Offences Against the State Act, 1939.
