A 69-year-old man has appeared before Carlow District Court charged with assault causing serious harm to his son, who died as a result of his injuries.
Zibigniew Bednarczyk, from Meadow Way in Kilkenny, was charged in relation to the stabbing.
Refal Bednarczyk, 37, died following an argument at their home on Monday evening. He had been living in Ireland for a number of years.

Detective Sergeant Brian Sheeran told the court that he arrested Zibigniew Bednarczyk and charged him at 11.25am today in Kilkenny before he was brought to court in Carlow.
Mr Bednarczyk, who was provided with a Polish interpreter in court, was granted legal aid after the court heard he was long-term unemployed.
He was remanded in custody by Judge Geraldine Carthy to appear again via video link on Monday.
