INVASION

On 24 February 2022, the world awoke to news that the unthinkable had happened. After months of sabre rattling, Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered tens of thousands of troops into Ukraine on what he calls a "special military operation", expecting them to sweep into the capital, Kyiv, in a matter of days.

Now, 12 months on. there is no sign that the conflict is anywhere close to an end.

BUCHA

Bucha lay on the Russians' path to Kyiv. After they withdrew, the level of destruction and loss of life there meant it became synonymous with the brutality of the invading forces, as hundreds of civilians were killed, some shot with their hands tied behind their backs.
