A man arrested following a serious assault on a garda in Dublin has been charged and is due in court tomorrow morning.

The garda was injured after responding to a call about dangerous driving at Gulliver's Retail Park in Santry, north Dublin, at around 11.30am yesterday when a car was driven at speed before colliding with a car and bollard.

It is understood the male garda sustained injuries to his hand and fingers while arresting a man.

A man in his 30s was arrested and taken to Ballymun Garda Station where he was charged today.

He remains in Garda custody and is expected to appear before a sitting of Dublin District Court, the Criminal Courts of Justice No. 4, at 10.30am tomorrow.

The injured Garda was taken to Connolly Hospital Blanchardstown to be treated for serious but non-life threatening injuries and has since been discharged.
