Gardaí investigating the death of a man who was found unconscious in a Cork housing estate this morning do not believe foul play was involved.
The man in his 40s was found lying on the road in a cul-de-sac at Ballinsheen Court in the Mahon area of Cork City at about 8.30am.
Emergency services treated him at the scene for up to an hour and a half and he was then brought by ambulance to Cork University Hospital, but was pronounced dead shortly afterwards.
It is understood he was from the north side of the city.
Gardaí initially described his death as occurring in "unexplained circumstances" but said this evening that, following initial results of a post-mortem examination, foul play is "no longer suspected".
A file will be prepared for the local coroner.
A full technical examination of the scene was carried out today by the divisional scenes-of-crime unit in Cork.
