A case taken against RTÉ by one of Fair City's best-known stars has returned to the Workplace Relations Commission.
Tony Tormey, who plays Paul Brennan on the long-running soap, said he is legally entitled to a contract of indefinite duration with the broadcaster.
RTÉ has denied the claim saying the actor was always happy to be a self-employed contractor.
Last month, at a previous hearing in the case, the WRC heard that Mr Tormey earned between €99,000 and €150,000 a year in recent times for his part in the show.
His case under the Protection of Employees (Fixed-Term Work) Act 2003 returned to the WRC today.
Mr Tormey was not present at the hearing as he was not required to appear in person on this occasion.
In legal filings opened at today's hearing, it was claimed that an RTÉ producer stated in 2003 that Mr Tormey was not permitted to work elsewhere on TV.
The adjudicating officer Breiffni O'Neill said he would need to hear witness evidence of this.
He also asked to see Mr Tormey's tax records dating back to 2004 and the actor's legal team said these would be submitted.
Mr O'Neill said it would be very difficult for him to decide what Mr Tormey's terms and conditions of employment should be if he were to receive a contract of indefinite duration, as his current rates of pay include things like holidays and sick pay because he is an independent contractor.
He also said that the issue of awarding any potential compensation in the case will be complex.
The matter was adjourned until the New Year.
