The RTÉ news2day team want children to get into the festive mood early with the launch of their well-known Christmas art competition.

Children are invited to send in a Christmas picture to news2day at RTÉ, Donnybrook, Dublin 4.

Children can use crayons, paint, pencils or any other medium to create their picture.

The theme this year is The True Spirit of Christmas.

Art entries could be anything - spending time with family and friends, making homemade gifts, decorating the tree - anything at all that shows what the true spirit of Christmas means to you.

Just hours before the Late Late Toy Show airs on Friday 25 November, one lucky art competition winner will get to turn on the RTÉ Christmas lights - live - on the news2day programme.

So, children are encouraged to have a think and get those pictures sent in as soon as possible!

The closing date is at noon on Friday 18 November and the news2day team cannot wait to see what pictures the children of Ireland send in.

Tune in to news2day every weekday at 4.20pm on RTÉ2 and RTÉ Player.
