Tobacco valued at €1.1m seized at Dublin Port

Revenue officers have seized 1.5 tonnes of tobacco at Dublin Port, with an estimated retail value of more than €1.1m.

The tobacco, branded Flandria with a Luxembourg tax stamp, was discovered in packages when officers searched a consignment that arrived from The Netherlands.

They were assisted by detector dog Waffle.

Officers described the product as rolling tobacco, and said that seizure represented a potential loss to the Exchequer of approximately €870,000.

Investigations are ongoing.
