Gardaí in Midleton in Co Cork are appealing for witnesses to an incident in which a garda and a security guard were assaulted.
The garda received what has been described as a serious injury and is receiving medical treatment.
Gardaí were called to a disturbance outside a bar in Cloyne in east Cork shortly after 10pm on Saturday.
The garda was assaulted and injured while he was making an arrest.
Three men in their 20s were arrested by gardaí at the scene.
