Conor McGregor charged with additional road offence

Mixed martial arts fighter Conor McGregor has appeared in court, charged with an additional road traffic offence earlier this year.

The 33-year-old now faces seven charges, including careless and dangerous driving, driving with no licence or insurance, and failing to produce either.

The offences are alleged to have occurred in Dublin in March of this year.

Judge David McHugh remanded Mr McGregor on continuing bail to appear again at Blanchardstown District Court in November for a plea or to set a date for trial.

The court also heard that the DPP has directed summary disposal, which means the case will be dealt with at district court level.

Mr McGregor was driven to Blanchardstown District Court in a black Mercedes for his appearance.

The 33-year-old was this morning charged with an additional offence of careless driving along with the six others he already faces; two of dangerous driving, two for allegedly driving with no licence or insurance, and two of failing to produce either licence or insurance.

The offences are alleged to have occurred on 22 March last at the N4 M50 interchange and relate to him driving a 19D registered Bentley Continental.

Garda Denis Lordan of Lucan Garda Station gave evidence that he further charged Mr McGregor with careless driving at 10.22am this morning at Blanchardstown District Court, before the case commenced.

Mr McGregor, he said, made no reply to the charge which the court was told has arisen out of the same incident.

Barrister David Stanton for the defence said they will want to review the charge and CCTV, and asked for the case to be adjourned so they can indicate what way they propose to deal with the matter the next day.

The man named by Forbes as the world's highest paid sports star last year, earning over €165 million in 2021 did not speak during the brief hearing, but mentioned his forthcoming movie outside as he was leaving.

"I'm off to shoot the film now, it's going to be a lot of fun," he said before he got into a Mercedes to be driven away.

Judge David McHugh remanded Mr McGregor on continuing bail until 24 November and ordered any outstanding evidence and CCTV to be disclosed to him.
