The Government has approved an Employment Regulation Order for the contract cleaning industry, which will see a pay increase for workers from 1 April.
The order provides for a new minimum hourly rate of €11.55, with further increases to €11.90 per hour from 1 April 2023 and €12.30 per hour from 1 April 2024.
The proposal will replace an Employment Regulation Order that was signed in 2020 for the contract cleaning sector.
"I would like to thank the members of the Joint Labour Committee, the Labour Court and those interested parties who submitted submissions as part of the public consultation for their contributions to this process," said Damien English, the Minister of State for Business, Employment and Retail.
Joint Labour Committees are composed of equal numbers of representatives of employers and workers in particular employment sectors.
The Committees meet under an independent chairman, an Industrial Relations Officer of the Workplace Relations Commission, to discuss and agree proposals for terms and conditions for workers.
"The Contract Cleaning Joint Labour Committee is a good example of how effective the Joint Labour Committee system can be when representatives of both employees and employers can agree a way forward for a sector," Mr English said.
