Arrest after acid attack in Cork city

A man in his 30s has been arrested following an attack on three men in Cork last night.

It is understood to have been an acid attack. It happened at a a house on Connolly Road in Ballyphehane on the south side of the city at around 8pm when a man forced his way into a house.

A 45-year-old man is being treated in hospital after the attack.

He received serious, though not life-threatening injuries, to his face, head and upper body.

His two brothers - who were in the house at the time - were also splashed with acid.

Their injuries are less serious.

They were treated at the scene in a decontamination unit operated by Cork City Fire Service before being transferred to hospital.

A man was arrested shortly after midnight and is being held at Bridewell Garda Station.

Investigating gardaí are appealing to people who were in the Connolly Road area between 7pm and 9pm - particularly those with phone or dashcam footage - to contact them at Togher Garda Station on 021-4947120.
