A motorcyclist in his 50s has died following a road collision in Co Cork.

The man's bike collided with a car in the village of Ballineen this afternoon at around 1.45pm.

He was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was removed to the mortuary at Cork University Hospital.

No one else was injured in the collision.

The R586 road between Bandon and Bantry remains closed for a technical examination.

Local diversions are in place.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses, or anyone with camera footage, to come forward.
