Aoife Beary, one of the survivors of the 2015 Berkeley balcony collapse tragedy in the US, has died aged 27.

Irish students Eoghan Culligan, Niccolai Schuster, Lorcán Miller, Eimear Walsh, and Olivia Burke, and Olivia's Irish-American cousin Ashley Donohoe, were all killed when a fourth floor balcony collapsed on 16 June 2015

Seven others who had been on the balcony celebrating Ms Beary's 21st birthday were injured in the incident.

A forensic examination of the balcony after the tragedy showed "extensive dry rot" of the wooden joists holding the deck to the building, and of the surface of the balcony.

In 2016, Ms Beary told a public hearing in Sacramento, California, about the effect the tragedy had on her and the other families who lost loved ones.

The club said that with "a heavy heart and great sadness we have to tell you that Aoife Beary passed away peacefully last night in Beaumont Hospital."

Ms Beary's former school Loreto College Foxrock paid tribute to her on a social media post this afternoon.
