Some members of the public now have the option of scheduling their own appointment for a booster vaccine at a select number of vaccination centres.

The HSE has opened an online scheduling system, similar to the one used for booking PCR tests, for more than 3,000 individual appointments starting tomorrow morning.

The self-scheduler is available for anyone aged 40 and older, or for people aged 30 and over that are either pregnant, a healthcare worker, have an underlying condition, or are living in a nursing home or a long-term healthcare facility.

The self-scheduler is only available for people over the age of 30 because the appointments for the Moderna/Spikevax booster jab.

The appointments are available at Croke Park in Dublin, the National Show Centre in Swords, Co Dublin, the Astro Active Centre in Enniscorthy, Co Wexford, and Scoil Carmel in Limerick (starting on Thursday).

The results of the initial roll-out will inform the use of the scheduler at a wider range of centres over the next week.

The HSE said it will continue to operate a combination of clinics, as it moves through the booster Covid-19 programme.

"We will still have walk-in clinics and scheduled appointment clinics, in addition to these new self-scheduled clinics," it said.

"We hope this new option will facilitate people in availing of the booster dose as soon as possible, to better protect themselves and their families and communities from serious illness caused by Covid-19."

People must wait at least 90 days after their vaccine course before they can get a vaccine.

Those that have had Covid-19 since they were vaccinated should only get their booster dose at least six months after their positive result.

Separately, the current wait period for a vaccine following recovery from Covid-19 is to be shortened from six to three months for those who are fully vaccinated.

The booking portal is available on the HSE website.
