Two women aged in their 30s and 40s have been arrested as part of an ongoing investigation into human trafficking, organised prostitution and money laundering.

They are being detained at a north Dublin garda station and can be held for seven days.

A number of searches were carried out this morning in Roscommon, Longford and Donegal by the Human Trafficking Investigation and Coordination Unit at the Garda National Protective Services Bureau.

Gardaí from the western region assisted in the operation.

The Garda National Protective Services Bureau has made an appeal to anyone who has been a victim of human trafficking to contact them or call the Garda Confidential Line on 1800666111.

A garda spokesperson said they "will be treated with the upmost confidentiality and sensitivity".
