The Rotunda Hospital has said it will be able to return to a full maternity service sooner than expected, from tomorrow.

Some gynaecology services are also being restored this week. The hospital said it will contact patients directly and hopes to return to full services next week.

It said that if patients are due a maternity or paediatric appointment for the rest of the week - they should come in as originally scheduled.

Patients should bring any doctors' letters they have from the hospital, their GP, or specialist at another hospital, that may assist.

It said that a copy of a scan report from a booking visit would also be very helpful.

Patients who had an appointment on Friday, Monday, or Tuesday that was cancelled are advised to ring the helpline on 01 211 9351 and the hospital will reschedule the appointment.

The National Maternity Hospital at Holles Street has provided a full, clinical service to all its patients since the cyber attack.

Prof Shane Higgins, Master at the hospital said, "We would like to thank all our staff for their incredible work. As a fully digitalised hospital, their commitment to our patients enabled the hospital to swiftly revert to a paper-based system and maintain a full clinical service.

"We are very grateful to all our patients for their continued support and cooperation," he said.

Meanwhile in the Dáil, the Taoiseach has said that a "religious ethos will not influence...policy or activities" at the National Maternity Hospital.

Micheál Martin said he has not discussed the issue with any "bishop or archbishop".

He was responding to concerns raised by a number of deputies, including Labour leader Alan Kelly and Bríd Smith

The Taoiseach said he accepts fully the concerns over the independence of the hospital, which he will insist on.

He said he will raise the issue with the Minister of Health to get it resolved, and revert to the House and the Oireachtas Health Committee.
