Twelve men and one woman have been brought before Dublin District Court, charged in connection with protests in Dublin this afternoon. 

The defendants include a father and son and twin brothers. The 13 people in court were charged with various public order offences.

In a statement, gardaí confirmed that 23 people were arrested during disturbances in the city centre.

"Of these, 13 have appeared before the Criminal Court of Justice and have been remanded in custody to appear before Cloverhill District Court at a later date.

"Seven people were charged with offences and released on station bail," the statement continued.

"Three juveniles have been released for consideration of inclusion in the Juvenile Diversion Programme."
