A Status Orange wind warning is in effect for Cork, with gale force winds gusting 90 to 110km/h forecast.
A Status Yellow wind warning is also in place for Leinster, Clare, Kerry, Limerick, Tipperary and Waterford.
An orange alert suggests weather that may pose a threat to life and property, whereas yellow is potentially dangerous locally but does not pose a threat to people.
Both alerts are valid from 9pm until 9am tomorrow morning.
There has also been a warning from Cork City Council that the city centre is at significant risk of flooding tomorrow morning. It is urging property owners to put flood defences in place.
Met Éireann said Cork was facing this risk of coastal flooding due to high seas and strong onshore winds.
It warned Cork was also facing "gale force southeast winds, veering southwest gusting 90km to 110km/h generally, higher in exposed areas".
Cork City Council has called on city centre householders and businesses "to ensure they have suitable defences in place tonight due to a significant flood risk tomorrow morning".
It says there is a Level 3 flood risk at 6.21am on Wednesday.
The council is also advising motorists that there will be city centre road closures from 5.30am to at least 7.30am.
People are also being warned not to leave cars parked in the city centre overnight tonight.
The council says it is "working to ensure that the city centre is open for business from 9am".
Director of Operations David Joyce said: "Cork City Council is advising all householders and businesses to erect barriers this evening so that they are in place for the anticipated flooding tomorrow morning. It is predicted that the flooding could be similar to the event on 20 October last.
"It really is important that businesses take active measures to protect their premises so they can continue to trade later on Wednesday morning. We are also recommending that all deliveries are postponed until after 8am on Wednesday," he said.
Meanwhile, the yellow alert for Leinster, Clare, Kerry, Limerick, Tipperary and Waterford means people can expect it to become "very windy tonight and tomorrow morning".
There will be strong and gusty southeast winds, veering southwest will gusts up to 100km/h. Due to high seas and strong onshore winds, there is also an elevated risk of coastal flooding.
There is also a Status Orange marine warning in place. South to southeasterly winds will reach gale to strong gale force tonight from Belfast Lough to Carnsore Point to Loop Head.
This will increase to storm force for a time between Roches Point and Valentia overnight.
