Minister for Finance Paschal Donohoe has defended the July stimulus package saying he believes it is "enough" to revive the economy with a package of measures that they are ready to implement now.

Speaking on RTÉ's This Week he said he understands some of the negative reaction from businesses to it.

"Each of them are representing businesses that are facing giganctic challenges, so I entirely understand those."

However, he said, if you look at the scale of what Ireland has done with this stimulus, it is now a scale of intervention that is very comparable, and in many cases, bigger than what other countries have done.

Regarding the Pandemic Unemployment Payment, he said the Government has a plan as to how to phase it out up to early 2021.

He said the Government has also put a plan in place for those retraining to get back to work.

When asked about the Government's school reopening plan he said the cost of it will be confirmed tomorrow and the change is more about investing than expense.

"Getting our schools reopen is fundamental to the wellbeing of our children, supporting families and indirectly allowing our economy to reopen."

He said it is going to be a very big plan and will include how we can make school buildings safe and support teachers.
