A man in his 70s has died after he was stabbed following what gardaí described as "an altercation" outside a house in Dublin this morning.
Gardaí responded to reports of an assault outside a house in the Whitechapel Road area of Clonsilla, in west Dublin, at around 5.55am.
A man, aged in his 70s, had received a number of apparent stab wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
A man in his 40s barricaded himself into another house nearby. No one else was present in the house at the time of the incident.
The man was later arrested.
The scene is currently preserved for a technical examination.
